Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage

The word `elephant orphanage` may be unfamiliar, yet it is entirely factual and real. The quiet grounds are committed to providing a natural habitat for captive elephant babies ranging in age from weeks to fifty years. The herd can be housed at the only orphanage of its sort on the planet to date.

The Pinnawela elephant orphanage in Sri Lanka was founded in 1975 on a nine-hectare plot of ideal coconut plantation land. There were only seven orphans at the start. Some of this generation`s members have now given birth to the second and third generations, and the story continues.

Matale spice and Herbal Garden

Visit a spice garden in Matale to learn about the many spices that Sri Lanka is famous for. The Matale spice gardens, located just 25 kilometers from Kandy`s hill capital, are among the greatest on the island. You`ll be introduced to many spices and shown how some of them are farmed and prepared. Visitors are welcome to meander through the gardens and learn about nutmeg, pepper vines, clove trees, curry, cinnamon, and the rare cardamom, a relative of ginger. It grows in the shade of high jungle trees and can only be harvested by hand. Visitors can purchase spices, traditional cures, and cosmetics; sample a herbal brew; and, in some cases, enjoy the full flavors of Sri Lankan spices over lunch or an Ayurveda massage based on natural garden products.

Royal Botanical Garden

The Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya are Sri Lanka`s oldest formal gardens. Every year, roughly 2 million local and foreign visitors visit the Royal Botanic Gardens Peradeniya. The park contains about 4000 plant species, including orchids, spices, medicinal herbs, and palm trees, and is known for its orchid collection and long, palm-framed pathways.. The dazzling climber plants with difficult-to-pronounce names like Beaumontia and Saritaea are entwined with the lovely lilac-blue petraea, which are claimed to have grown more beautifully than at the Kew gardens themselves.

Tooth of temple Kandy

The Sri Dalada Maligawa (or Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic) is a Buddhist temple that houses Lord Buddha`s tooth relic. It is located within the royal palace complex of the ancient Kingdom of Kandy. Kandy was the last great capital of Sri Lanka`s ancient monarchs, and the presence of the temple is one of the main reasons why the city was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The relic housed within the temple has played an important part in Sri Lanka`s political history, as it was believed that the keeper of the relic had the authority to rule the country. The protection of the tooth relic became one of the monarch`s duties, and it became a symbol of the right to reign over time. This is why the temples built to protect the relic were so close to the monarch`s royal home.

Ambuluwawa

Ambuluwawa, located in Gampola, Kandy, is a biodiversity complex and Sri Lanka`s first multi-religious center. This trigonometrical station includes a large freestanding tower that resembles a stylized Buddhist stupa, a Hindu Kovil, a Muslim mosque, and a Christian church. You may reach the summit of the fairy-tale-looking Ambuluwawa tower at around 48 meters (3567 feet) using its twisty Burton-esque staircase. Then you can take in beautiful views of the neighboring mountains, forests, rivers, and cities. The constant mist might sometimes obscure the view.

Tea Factory and Plantation

Sri Lanka has a long history of tea tourism, and practically all tea factories provide some kind of tour. The tours can be completed while traveling through the tea country and don`t take very long. Normally, when visiting a tea factory, one would first visit the plantation to learn about the cultivation of tea before going to the factory to see the old equipment that was used to wither, roll, and dry the tea before the industrial revolution. After the tour, there is typically some time for a tea tasting, sometimes of just one kind of tea but more often of the numerous specialties of that particular factory.

Horton Plains

The highlight of Horton Plains National Park is World`s End, where the highland plateau abruptly ends and a 1,000-meter plummet opens up before you. Mini World`s End lies nearby, with a drop of only 300 meters. If you get there before 10 a.m., you`ll almost certainly be rewarded with something magnificent. Arrive late, and the mists may have rolled in, leaving you staring into whiteness, especially during the wettest months of May to September. A tiny viewing area is walled off, but deviating from the designated path poses evident danger as you approach the cliff edge. An extension to adjacent Baker`s Falls, one of Sri Lanka`s greatest waterfalls, is also worth a visit for the energetic. This requires some scrambling up steep slopes and is only suggested for individuals with quick feet. The walk to World`s End is 4 kilometers long on level terrain, with a hard loop to Baker`s Falls (2 kilometers) and another 3.5 kilometers back to the entrance. It takes three hours to do the 9.5-kilometer round trip.

Ambewela Farm

A must-see. The Ambewela Farm, often known as `Little New Zealand,`is located in magnificent terrain surrounded by lush flora and mist-shrouded hilltops. Cows and cattle can be seen grazing on the farm, as well as other farm animals with which visitors can interact! If you`re lucky, you could get to observe the cows being milked. Farm-fresh dairy products are also available for purchase. The drive is nice, passing by vegetable farms, lakes, and forests, and you can rest your eyes. On the route, you`ll cross Kande Ela, another cool, tranquil location that will charm you.

Stroberry Farm

Nuwara Eliya is well-known for its fresh Sri Lankan strawberries. In this part of the island, there are numerous firms that manufacture strawberring. Visitors can take a tour of the strawberry farm to learn about the strawberry production process. They can also enjoy fresh strawberries and a variety of other strawberry-based sweet treats. It is a one-of-a-kind experience that everybody visiting Nuwara Eliya should have. To reach the Strawberry Farm in Nuwara Eliya, travel roughly 2.5 kilometers along the Blackpool-Magasthota Road and another 2.5 kilometers along the Blackpool-Ambewela-Pattipola-Horton Plain Road.

The city trip will begin with a journey to Nuwara Eliya. You will first see the historic Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, one of Asia`s oldest golf clubs, from the outside before proceeding to town. When you get into town, you will be taken to one of Sri Lank``s oldest post offices. A traditional Tudor-style colonial structure with a red brick facade Victoria Park is a lovely park named after Queen Victori`s memorial. Take the time to go around the park and soak in the atmosphere and amazing sights of its landscapes, which include beautiful trees and grass. Then you`ll proceed to Lake Gregory, a man-made masterpiece from colonial times. It was originally developed for electricity but is currently utilized for amusement and relaxation. This lovely lake is surrounded by amazing views of distant mountains.

St.Clair Waterfall

St. Clair`s waterfall is located on the western side of Thalawakele town in the Nuwara Eliya District. It is considered one of the widest waterfalls on the island. Some call this the `Little Niagara of Sri Lanka.` This is actually an iconic waterfall that reveals the beauty of Sri Lanka to the world. St. Clair Falls is considered the 20th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. It is made up of two drops. The upper part is called `Maha Ella,`with 80 meters in height. With a 50-meter height, the bottom section is known as `Kuda Ella.` Finally, the water drops into a larger pool that you cannot reach easily. It`s difficult to reach the waterfall, and you need to walk through a `Mana` forest. St. Clair`s Waterfall is formed by Kotmale Oya. It`s a main branch of the Mahaweli River. The elevation of the fall is 1076 m. Kotmale Oya created St. Clair`s Waterfall. It is a major tributary of the Mahaweli River. The fall is 1076 meters above sea level.

Devon Waterfall

An exquisite waterfall that epitomizes the grandeur of Nuwara Eliya, one of Sri Lanka`s gorgeous highlands! Devon Falls, also known as the `Veil of the Valley,` is a beautiful cascade on a branch of the Kotmale River that is ideal for nature lovers who want to enjoy tourism at its best. Devon Waterfall, located at an elevation of 1159 meters above sea level and plunging down the jagged rocks amidst the lush hillside, will captivate your gaze. Devon Waterfalls, named for a British pioneer coffee planter, is a must-see tourist attraction in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka.

Kithulgala Water Rafting

The Kelani River is used for whitewater rafting in Kitulgala. This river allows guests to experience adrenaline-pumping moments battling the rapids, interlaced with several opportunities to take in the breathtaking nature of the surroundings. Kitulgala`s high riverbank is flanked by tall, lovely bamboo trees that sway softly as though to wave you along as you paddle through the town. The entire experience lasts approximately 90 minutes, with the five rapids along the river rated as 2 or 3. `Black Rafting` is another unusual way to enjoy this water sport, in which travelers are given headlamps and safety gear before being rushed out onto the rapids at nightfall, with just the light of the full moon to guide them. To prevent severe rains, whitewater rafting is best done between the months of May and December. With enough rain, the river might become too unsafe for people to navigate and should therefore be avoided.

Madu River Boat Safari

Near Galle and at Balapitiya, adjacent to Sri Lanka`s southern coastal region, is where you`ll find the Madu River, which is ideal for boat safaris. Madu River is a 900-hectare wetland estuary, of which 770 hectares are submerged in water and home to 64 islands. One of the few wetlands in Sri Lanka to have a virgin mangrove forest, this complex wetland ecosystem is a world heritage site protected by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. The boat ride is a good way to have a closer look at it.

Turtle Hatchery

The hatchery and rescue facility look after five different types of turtles. These species include the Green Turtle, Hawksbill Turtle, Leatherback Turtle, and Olive Ridley Turtle. Modern water tanks are included in the facilities at the sea turtle hatchery and rescue center, which also provides care for adult turtle species that have been pulled from the water after suffering injuries.

Colombo City Tour

Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, is home to a thriving mix of dining, shopping, and cultural events. It also serves as the island`s lifeline. The Seema Malaka and neighboring Gangaramaya Temples are located on the gorgeous Beira Lake in the center of the city, which is framed by Colombo`s developing modern cityscape. The National Museum, a restored colonial governor`s home located near the beautiful Viharamahadevi Park and the iconic Independence Square, is the perfect place to travel back in time. The Arcade Independence Square, a renovated colonial structure that today contains a variety of designer companies and upscale eateries, is located next to this significant monument.
